Canon RF-S 7.8mm F4 STM Dual - film or photograph in 3D for VR
For those working with 3D creation, Canon now releases another lens for spatial video and 3D still images for VR among others.
Canon is now releasing its lens for 3D creation, this time for the APS-C format, i.e., the RF-S mount - as we wrote about in June along with Canon RF-S 3.9mm f/3.5 Dual Fisheye. Canon previously released the full-frame lens RF 5.2mm f/2.8L Dual Fisheye.
The Canon RF-S 7.8mm F4 STM Dual has similar features to the 3.9mm version, but is more compact, and is compatible with Apple Vision Pro which allows you to watch the movies in Apple's Vision Pro headset or use for other stereoscopic applications.
The lens provides a 63-degree angle of view and is compatible with Canon EOS R7. The lens can be used to create realistic 3D still images and video, which can then be played back on VR headsets or display devices for printed images.
The lens weighs 130 grams, uses STM autofocus, and has a minimum focusing distance of 0.15 meters. With the EOS VR Utility app, one gets the workflow to create spatial video for Apple Vision Pro headsets, so that content taken with products in Canon's EOS VR system can be exported in MV-HEVC codec when using MacOS.
The Canon RF-S 7.8mm F4 STM Dual is available from November 2024. The recommended price is 6,749 kronor including VAT.
