MacBook Pro M6 May Offer a Winning Combo for Photographers

New rumors suggest that upcoming MacBook Pro models in 2026 could be especially good for those who work with images or video.

The site MacRumors, which writes about developments within Apple's ecosystem, has now received indications that rumors about an improved MacBook Pro for photographers are true. According to them, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has said that the update of the models in 2025 will only offer minor improvements in the form of the M5 chip - and that the major changes will come in 2026.

He says that the 2026 models, which are likely to come with the M6 processor, will have five major changes compared to today's models, where perhaps the most important for photographers is the screen.

Rumors have pointed to OLED screens being introduced in the MacBook Pro M6 in 2026, and that production now seems capable of handling all the units to be produced. This means that today's mini-LED technology will be significantly improved when Apple transitions to OLED technology.

With the new technology, both brightness, energy efficiency, black levels, and contrast range are improved, providing a greater range between the darkest and brightest that the screen can display - something that contributes to an expanded range for HDR specifications.

At the same time, the screen is also expected to become thinner, something we wrote about at the end of last year, which contributes to a more portable computer for those who travel or work in the field with their images. The rumors also include news about the built-in camera: according to these, the notch at the camera will disappear, instead providing a slightly larger image area.

Additionally, the new M6 processors may be manufactured with the 2nm process, which would mean an even more integrated processor with its parts such as CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, and RAM - something that speeds up performance.

For those who still can't wait until 2026 and already need a light and fast computer for photo and video editing, it seems an updated version of MacBook Air M4 is also approaching release.

Even though we don't know all the details about the specifications for sure, it looks promising: MacBook Air M4 is expected to have a 10-core CPU and GPU, which should make the computer up to 25 percent faster than the M3 processor.

MacBook Air M4 will also have three Thunderbolt 4 ports, which is an upgrade from two Thunderbolt 3 ports on the MacBook Air M3.
