Nikon Z8 gets faster autofocus with new firmware

Nikon improves its Z8 camera with new functionality: enhanced pixel shift and faster focusing.

A little over a year ago, the Nikon Z8 received an update to firmware 2.0, which among other things gave the camera the pixel shift function for images up to 180 megapixels.

Now Nikon has released another milestone in the form of firmware 3.00, with several updates to the camera, which are on their way to being rolled out for download.

Among other things, the pixel shift function has been improved with reduced shooting time. The update also provides support for Flexible Color Picture Control, with the ability to control colors before shooting. Through flexible adjustment of contrast, saturation, and hue, you can import image properties to the camera as a custom Picture Control and apply them during shooting.

The firmware update also improves autofocus performance with a new focus limiter in the camera that allows you to limit the focus range to specific distances, which speeds up how the focus works.

Nikon also announces that there are further improvements in usability and functionality, but does not elaborate on what this means. The updates will be available on Nikon's website shortly.
