Canon's VR System Gets Support for Apple Vision Pro

At Apple's developer conference WWDC, news about VisionOS 26 for Apple's VR glasses Vision Pro was announced, where support for Canon's lenses will come in the second half of 2025.

It was in 2021 that Canon launched its VR system for three-dimensional video recording through the "EOS VR System", which was then expanded with compatible lenses for the purpose.

Canon now announces that their two lenses Canon RF 5.2mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye from 2021 and Canon RF-S 3.9mm F3.5 STM Dual Fisheye from 2024 will support the Apple Projected Media Profile, which is the format that Apple's VR headset Vision Pro supports for 3D video. Canon RF-S 7.8mm F4 STM Dual from 2024 will also be compatible with "spatial photo".

At Apple's developer conference WWDC, visionOS 26 was also showcased for Apple Vision Pro, which will support the lenses in the second half of 2025. Video material recorded with these lenses and compatible cameras can be converted to Apple's APMP format using an updated version of the EOS VR Utility program.

Canon also announces that their Canon EOS R50 will receive a firmware update in mid-July 2025, enabling the use of both "spatial video" and "spatial photo".
